Bet you didn’t know we did that! — Part 3 of Things Chiropractors Can Help With That You May Not Have Been Aware
Written by Dr. Ray Knorr - September 2025
Wellness / Sleep
Chiropractors help not just with pain and injury. We also treat people seeking to enhance their wellness. Many studies indicate that adjustments help promote several health aspects, including an average drop of 10 blood pressure points, increased respiratory volume, and improved immune circulation.
Further, studies have correlated an increase in sympathetic (fight or flight) tone with loss of cervical (neck) curvature. Restoration of the cervical curve, therefore, can help with things like digestion, sleep and anxiety.
Lastly, it is difficult to sleep well if your body hurts, so getting adjusted may be a key to getting a good night’s rest!
Sports Performance
As a former competitive junior and collegiate athlete, I understand the demands put on athletes’ bodies. Drawing from personal and professional experience, I’ve helped many athletes, from runners to dancers to football players (and even a couple pole vaulters), stay in top form.
Many professional athletes make chiropractic a part of their team. The brain controls our movements through muscles. However, this control is dependent on information FROM joints and muscles so that the brain knows where our parts are in space. If a joint is not moving well, then the brain gets muddled information about its position. This leads to less coordinated movement and decreased strength.
Increased communication between your body and your brain not only helps prevent injury, but also enhances performance.
TMJ / Sinus Issues
I am trained in the treatment of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD / TMD). This problem responds very well to manual therapy techniques. At Motivity, I use a combination of chiropractic adjustments, myofascial release, dry needling and cold laser to great effect.
TMJD is often associated with chronic headaches. Therefore we typically check this area as part of the treatment of headaches and migraines. Fun fact: the hip flexor muscles (ex. psoas) and the TMJ are connected both anatomically and functionally.
Chiropractors can be very helpful with breathing issues related to sinus congestion. We can often help relieve the symptoms of sinus congestion from short-term conditions like colds or allergies, but we can help with long-term problems as well.
I am also trained in Nasal Release, or Nasocranial Release. This technique uses small “balloons” inserted into the sinuses to help expand the cranial bones and airways.
If any of these issues sound familiar, chiropractic care may be able to help. Contact us to schedule your appointment, or reach out if you’d like to learn more.
