Bet you didn’t know we did that! — Things Chiropractors Can Help With That You May Not Have Been Aware
One thing I hear quite often at Motivity is “I didn’t know you treated ____!”.
Many people assume chiropractors only treat neck and back pain.
We do so much more!!!
Some chiropractors focus on neck and back pain. Some even focus on just the neck. But most chiropractors do more.
Here’s a short list of SOME of the things chiropractors, including myself, can help with:
Pregnancy Care
Chiropractic care has been shown through research to support pregnancy. Mommas who do regular chiropractic care during their pregnancy enjoy greater levels of comfort. It’s especially helpful for hip and low back pain, as well as sciatica and pubic symphysis pain.
In addition, chiropractic has been shown to decrease labor and delivery times and even support proper baby positioning. I have undergone special training and received certification in the Webster Technique—a technique designed to optimize sacral and pelvic positioning, and even help baby to flip from breech to head-down (note: chiropractors do not push or twist on baby like in an ECV—instead we create room for baby to find the right position). For more info go to the ICPA website.
Pediatrics
Yes, we treat kids AND even babies. Kids’ brain development is largely dependent on sensory stimulation from movement. A kid’s motor milestones kickstart their cognitive milestones. Proper movement patterns in the body are essential to healthy development in the brain. The later issues are discovered, the more complex the brain development issues become, and the more difficult they are to treat. This is why checking babies early and often is critical. Quite often I will find primitive reflexes (reflexes that should only be present in newborns) in older kids with developmental delays or other issues (Google “neurodivergence and primitive reflexes”). Consider how traumatic birth is for momma and baby. I always encourage my new moms to come and have both mom and baby checked.
Extremities (Arms and Legs)
Many patients are surprised that I treat all sorts of extremity issues such as shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, IT band Syndrome, Hip Bursitis, Knee pain, Ankle pain, and Plantar Fasciitis. We even treat neuropathy. I have received special training in specific extremity adjustments and other manual therapies to help treat these issues and keep people out of surgery.
